Hey, has anyone used the Ipod 4 G touch? It sounds like it's fairly new. I'd like an Ipod, but would like one with internet connectivity. Also, dos anyone know if tactile screen protectors will be available for this model? I'd like to use something tactile at first as I'm new at touch screens. I know they have them out for the Ipod Touch 3 gs.

I pPods that say anything G are internet ready. It is why they have the 3 or 4 G status. Now that 4 G service is expensive if you get to downloading much. It cost. The rest I don't know.

actualy the G in this case means generation and doesn't refer to the network type it operates on.

iPod just hooks up to your wireless internet connection, and does not cost anything extra. It does,if you get a 3G dataplan for it, I am not sure if you can even, I think not actually, you can with the iPad ($25/month unlimited from AT&T, but it's not part of your phone and dataplan).

Yeah, I knew the Ipod Touch models were all internet-capable, but has anyone used the Ipod 4 G? I'm wondering how much better it would be than a 3 G, that's a little older, so might be a bit cheaper.

go with the 4 if at all possible has a lot more to offer you than the 3g does. they react the same software wise though, the main difference is wht the 4 has included in it like the built in mic, camera, that kind of thing

Ipods have cameras and mikes? Thought that was just the phones.

I don't think the 8 GB have them but then again, you wouldn't be bothered with the 8 GB since it won't come with speach.

actually wrong on both counts. the latest IPod does have cameras and mics by default on all sizes and voiceover too.

Rat's right: BLW the camera is there but limited when it comes to OCR: too much pixel noise for that.
Frankly I find it hard to believe but sighted people have claimed mine will take a picture that looks good to them. How that happens with a lower resolution than 1 megapixel I do no tknow, but then again, my perspective is skewed: I am lifelong totally blind, technically savvy, and have a lot of photography people in my immediate sphere, whose visual tastes far surpass most people's, so I imagine for most things it does just fine.
That includes even FaceTime.
Although OCR doesn't work with it, Object Recognition does. By Object Recognition, that means the software looks at the image the same way as a sighted person does: pattern recognition via a database of same or similar recognized patterns, e.g. the Coke emblem, rather than trying to analyze the image, retrieve the letters C O K E and read that back to you.
So it's a win for bottles, cans, boxes, CDS, and even color identification if you can deal with the hippie LSD-style naming they put on colors.
And anything using the video camera of course will work fine as that is continuous.
With iOS5 you merely need to press the volume up button rather than double tap to take pictures.
Also you can get an off-the-shelf GPS receiver, specifically the Duo GPS 150 from Amazon, which will work with it. Only thing is for navigation you need an app with stand-alone maps. Or an Android phone you can tether your Pod to. The iLife apps for it work pretty good, I do all my Coast Guard work on it as I've said other places.

As for the screen protectors, they're compatible with the current 4G models. They really haven't changed in the past few months. Go to http://www.atguys.com to get one.
